Pasta with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella is a fresh, light, and flavorful dish inspired by classic Italian cuisine. This simple and elegant dish is reminiscent of Italian Caprese salad served with pasta. It combines juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil to create a simple yet satisfying meal. The warmth of the freshly cooked pasta gently softens the tomatoes and slightly melts the cheese, forming a delicate, silky sauce. This recipe is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner when you want something delicious with minimal effort.
Pasta with Cherry Tomatoes and Mozzarella – Recipe
The dish is prepared very quickly—simply mix all the ingredients with hot pasta, which slightly softens the tomatoes and gently melts the mozzarella.
Ingredients (serves 4)
- 400 g fettuccine, linguine, or other pasta of your choice
- 300–400 g cherry tomatoes
- 200–250 g mozzarella cheese (preferably small mozzarella balls)
- Fresh basil leaves
- 5–6 tbsp high-quality olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Grated Parmesan (optional)

Instructions
- Wash the cherry tomatoes and cut them in half. If the tomatoes are very large, cut them into quarters. Place them in a large bowl and season with salt and pepper. Let them sit for 10–15 minutes so they release their juices.
- If you are not using mozzarella balls, cut the mozzarella cheese into small pieces. Chop the fresh basil roughly or simply tear it by hand.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the instructions on the package. Before draining, reserve about half a cup of the pasta cooking water.
- Add the olive oil to the bowl with the tomatoes and, if desired, add the minced garlic. Mix well.
- Once the pasta is drained, while it is still hot, add it to the bowl with the tomatoes. Immediately add the mozzarella pieces and mix well. The mozzarella will start to melt from the heat of the pasta, creating a creamy texture. If the mixture seems too dry, add a little of the reserved pasta cooking water.
- Stir in the fresh basil. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve immediately while the dish is still warm. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan and drizzle with a little high-quality olive oil.
