Potato and Herring Casserole
Many people are used to preparing herring dishes cold, but it is also great for hot dishes. Try this especially delicious potato and herring casserole.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg potatoes
- 400 g salted herring fillet
- 200 g cream
- 200 g sour cream
- 3 eggs
- 100 g of hard cheese
- 2 onions
- 1.5 tablespoons flour
- 15 g dill
- salt, pepper, to taste
- oil, as needed
Directions:
- Wash and boil the potatoes with their skins on. Peel the boiled and cooled potatoes and cut them into slices.
- Chop the dill, grate the cheese.
- Chop the onion and fry in a pan with a little oil.
- Grease the bottom and sides of the baking dish with oil. Lay out a layer of potato slices. Sprinkle with onions and chopped dill. Arrange the herring cut into pieces. Add the potatoes again and continue layering until the products are finished (the top layer should be potatoes).
- Lightly beat the eggs in a bowl to combine the yolk and white. Add sour cream, cream, flour and lightly beat until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the mixture over the potatoes, spreading evenly. Sprinkle grated hard cheese on top.
- Bake the casserole in an oven preheated to 200 °C for about 30-40 minutes, until the top is nicely browned (10 minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle the top of the casserole with hard cheese).
- After removing from the oven, let the casserole cool slightly and firm up.
- You can garnish with chopped dill and spring onions when serving.
